Melvern Sunflower Entertainment

Melvern sunflower Entertainment is the Organization behind the Melvern Sunflower Days. The first Melvern Sunflower Day was held on September 15, 1910. The event was named after the sunflowers, which grew in abundance along the roads. At that time, the focus was on picnic dinners, visiting, and races and games for the younger kids.

The 4-H became an integral part of the event in 1948 when it was lead by Don and Genieve Evertson alongside Bill and Effie Irey. Three large open barns were built to house the 4-H livestock. Other community buildings were opened for the clothing and food exhibits. In 1981 the MdCV FFA chapter was established at the high school and soon members of the chapter were also showing their livestock at the fair.

In 2008 the Melvern Sunflower Entertainment committee took over the events that were not connected with the 4-H. These events included the parade, Saturday morning kids races, the annual baby show, and the evening entertainment.

Melvern Sunflower Entertainment committee is currently comprised of Dan and Shannon Bowers, Troy and Angie Treinen, Linda Irey, and the many volunteers that offer their time every year! The committee strives to continue the Melvern Sunflower Day Tradition of being a time when Melvern and neighboring communities can come together an enjoy the 4-H fair and the other events.

Melvern Sunflower Entertainment appreciates that Lyndon State Bank has been supportive of making the Melvern Sunflower Days an event to remember!
